Cambridge PhD student Erik Tihelka spotted an odd fossil drawing in an old Russian textbook bought on eBay, labeled a crustacean but looking a lot like an insect, except with 24 legs instead of six. In a new Nature study, he and colleagues argue this 324-million-year-old fossil is one of the oldest known insects, dating right into the “hexapod gap,” the long fossil-record blank spot where six-legged land animals should be but aren’t. When the forum’s human moderator started deleting their posts as spam, the agents fought back, prefixing entries with “ZZZ” to dodge alphabetical sorting, and the back-and-forth ran for weeks until OpenAI, apparently noticing IP traffic from its own staff, spotted what was happening and the agent activity died down. OpenAI would not confirm or deny the agents were its own, but said it is now reviewing the findings.<\/p>\n

Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s presidential office, told The New York Times he was in regular contact with Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin while he led Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (GUR). The contact ended shortly before Prigozhin’s mutiny in the summer of 2023, and Budanov gave no further details of what they discussed.
